Biodiversa Joint Research Call 2022-2023 on "Improved transnational monitoring of biodiversity and ecosystem change for science and society (BiodivMon)"
A new method for systematically identifying the cellular hosts of environmental viruses.
Metagenomics is the reference method for exploring and documenting the diversity of viruses in the environment. Although a multitude of viruses can be discovered by this approach, it suffers from a strong limitation: it does not allow to know the organisms infected by the viruses identified by their genomic sequences. This is a major obstacle to understanding the role of viruses in the environment.
Our academic group (marine virology) is currently developing a new approach to address this major methodological limitation in environmental virology. We would like to join a project in which this approach could be finalized and deployed.
