My expertise / skills : Spent the last few years perfecting practical and on-field Macroscopic Wood Identification mobile app for both Android phones and iPhones. With our Xylorix wood identification platform (http://bit.ly/Xylorix2) coupled with Xylorix Wood Identification Kit WIDK-24X01 (http://bit.ly/WIDKit), we can rapidly localize the wood models to any regions. This mobile app can serve as an effective tools to empower the custom officers in fighting against illegal logging and trading.

Project description : Identifying the genus or species of a piece of wood is not a trivial task. However, this is an essential technique to empower the enforcement officers to take necessary actions against those who break the laws.
Today, the wood identification process is either very slow (days or weeks) or expensive.
Organizations like GTTN, ITTO are among those we are actively searching for effective wood identification solutions, with deployment in especially in the third world wood producing/sourcing countries.
Wood identification through wood anatomy is one of the oldest and well established techniques in the forestry. However, those experienced wood anatomists are retiring and it takes time to train young wood anatomists on more than 1000 different species of woods.
Hence there is an urgent need to have a handy tool that allow lay-person like custom/enforcement officers performing this wood identification at ease yet confidently.
Our Xylorix platform is a platform for wood identification. It allows wood anatomists with wood specimens to rapidly build AI models to identify particular wood genus or species, using decent mobile phones & illuminated macro-lens (http://bit.ly/WIDKit).
Once the AI models are built and verified, enforcement officers can use the mobile app to perform wood identification almost immediately. This can be an very cost effective tools especially for the third-world countries.
We are looking for wood anatomists with access to wood specimens to work together.
