My expertise / skills : My past and recent work focus the physiological adaptation of deep-sea organims to hostile environments. My goal is to identify the molecular mechanism behind the regulation and detoxification of metal ions and implications in organims oxidative stress using enzymatic antioxidant biomarkers and gene expression as my main tools to identify such mechanisms. I developed skills in technics such as AAS, ICP, DPP, scanning electron microscopy, proteomics, gene expression and histology. At the moment I coordinate a research project that studies the cumulative impacts of ocean acidification and metal exposure in deep-sea cold-water corals physiology, cellular modification, signaling and homeostasis. I am also involved in monitoring projects of plastic pollution in the Azores archipelago, evaluating trace metals and POPs adsorption in plastic fragments
Disciplines
I am working on :
Ecotoxicology
Marine Biology
Molecular Biology
Physiology
Keywords : ecotoxicology, deep-sea environments, toxicity, molecular biology, plastic pollution
Project description : I would like to join projects related to climate change impacts on marine organims physiology. Projects with a highly component of experimental scenarios of ocean acidification, metal exposure and other factors. Projects regarding plastic pollution as a vector of environmental contaminants, namely trace metals and POPs
Networking opportunities : 3rd International Caparica Conference on Pollutant Toxic Ions and Molecules 2019
04th – 07th November 2019 | Caparica | Portugal
